FREEPOER – Helen L. Prosser, 89, formerly of Royalsborough Road in Durham, died Friday afternoon, Dec. 23, at the Hawthorne House in Freeport, where she had been a resident for the past three years.
She was born in Freeport on July 16, 1916, a daughter of George L. and Helen (Brown) Curtis. She was educated in Freeport schools and remained a lifelong resident of the greater Freeport community.
On July 17, 1937, she married Frederick E. Prosser, who passed away July 25, 2001.
Helen worked for more than 40 years at the Freeport Shoe Shop, until her retirement.
Among her favorite enjoyments were gardening, doing geneology, spending time at their camp on Flagstaff Lake, reading books, writing poems, listening to country music and eating chocolate, which she loved.
She leaves four brothers, Bradley Curtis and wife, Gladys, Linwood Curtis and wife, Helen, and Roland Curtis and wife, Vaughndella, all of Freeport, and Glendon Curtis and wife, Lorraine, of Lewiston; three grandchildren, Kelly of Wisconsin and Dawn and Robin, both of Massachusetts; five great-grandchildren, Courtney, Melissa, Amanda, Amber and Brayden, all of Massachusetts; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Frederick Prosser; a son, Harold E. Prosser; a sister, Edith Seymour; and two brothers, George E. and Burton Curtis.
