FRYEBURG – Joanne Hesslein, 78, formerly of Scarborough, died Dec. 20 at the Fryeburg Health Care Center.
She was born in Keene, N.H., on April 22, 1927, the daughter of James W. Cuthbert and Gladys R. (Cutler) Cuthbert. Joanne was a graduate of Northfield School and Smith College, with a bachelor’s degree in psychology.
She worked as a social worker in several health care facilities, retiring in 1993.
Joanne loved tennis and being with her many friends. She was a master gardener, bird-watcher, foster grandparent and a kind, gentle and giving person. Joanne loved living near the Scarborough Marsh, hiking, mushrooming, canoeing and most outdoor activities.
She is survived by three sons, Mark of Miami, Fla., Richard of Brownfield and Gregg and Jodie of Brownfield; and one granddaughter.
Joanne was predeceased by her sister, Natalie Partlan; and son, Peter Hesslein.
