NORWAY – John W. Buehl, 82, of Norway, died Monday, Dec. 26, at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway.

He was born in Jamaica, N.Y., on May 21, 1923, the son of Oscar and Anna (Krebs) Buehl. He had worked as a machinist and also as a carpenter in later years. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp during World War II.

John enjoyed boxing in the Marines, where he acquired the name “Pretty Boy Buehl.” He excelled at both softball and basketball. He enjoyed gardening and singing in his own band called the ” New Edition.”

He is survived by two sons, Gaylen Buehl of Waterford and John Leonard of Oxford; five daughters, Sue Vaara and husband, Ed, of Deerfield, N.H.; Cindy Swett and husband, Ray, of Hanford, Calif., Peggy Foster-Finn of Old Town, Starr Hatch of Norway, and Katie Brett and husband, Dylan, of South Paris; a special friend, Norma Brett, of South Paris; a brother, Charles Buehl of New Jersey; 15 grandchildren, Gaylen, Wendy, Derrick, Brody, Travis, Ben, Jared, Justyce, Trenton, Trae, Cadence, Tristin, Arysta, Josh and Jake; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Lillian Buehl in 1997; brothers, Joe Buehl, Butch Buehl and Frank Buehl; a sister, Delores Kolmel; and a friend; Clara Leonard.
