NEW GLOUCESTER – Mabel F. Greeley, 88, of New Gloucester and formerly of Needham, Mass., died Saturday, Dec. 24.

Born in Medford, Mass., she graduated from Tufts University in 1939 and Simmons School of Library Science in 1942. She was the librarian at Farmington State Teachers College from 1941-1942 and the librarian at Newton Junior College, in Newtonville, Mass., from 1957-1976.

She was librarian-curator of the New Gloucester Historical Society for a number of years, as well as serving a term as president of the society. She was also a member of the New Gloucester Garden Club, and for several years she coordinated the volunteers for the New Gloucester Public Library. In addition to community activities, she enjoyed braiding rugs, knitting and tray painting.

Surviving are her husband, William H. Greeley of New Gloucester; son, William H. Greeley Jr. of Marblehead, Mass.; daughter, Jane John of Brunswick; and three grandchildren, Andrew Greeley, Seth John and Elizabeth John.
