Jack Black went ape on ‘Kong’ set
NEW YORK (AP) – As if a giant ape weren’t enough to get Jack Black going in “King Kong,” the actor says he let loose one time while making the film.
“Overall I’m very responsible on set. I’m not one of those dudes who come drunk to the set,” Black says in the January issue of GQ magazine.
“But there was a lost weekend where I had a little time off and I did some Ecstasy and I went on a kind of crazy rampage and I started smoking (again),” he says. “Me and another member of the cast, who will remain nameless, just running around, dancing around, drinking and Ecstasizing, smoking like a chimney. And then it was over.”
The 36-year-old actor says he’s since quit smoking and is on a strict diet. In “King Kong,” he plays Carl Denham, a filmmaker who traps Kong and brings him to New York.
Oprah’s jet collides with bird
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (AP) – Oprah Winfrey’s private jet was forced to return to the city airport after its windshield was cracked in a collision with a bird, officials said.
Winfrey and her boyfriend, Stedman Graham, were not hurt in the incident, which occurred around 12:30 p.m. Monday just after the Gulfstream jet had taken off from Santa Barbara, said Santa Barbara Fire Department spokesman John Ahlman.
“This is not a totally unusual thing,” Ahlman said of the cracked windshield. “We see these things pretty frequently.”
The plane will remain grounded until its windshield can be repaired, Ahlman said.
Winfrey bought a mansion on 42 acres of land in the hills of nearby Montecito five years ago. The host of “The Oprah Winfrey Show” has won several Emmys and other awards for her work on daytime television.
