LEWISTON – Arthur E. Harris, 85, of Minot, died early Wednesday, Dec. 28, at Central Maine Medical Center.

He was born in Minot on May 10, 1920, the son of John and Clara (Leach) Harris. He attended school in Minot and was a farmer all of his life.

He was a lifetime member of the West Minot Grange, The Minot Moonshiner’s Snowmobile Club, and a member of the Pomona Grange.

Arthur was a compassionate, caring person who would help anyone. He believed in giving to his community and did as fire chief, selectman and member of the planning board in Minot. He established the Arthur E. Harris Scholarship to help Minot students further their education. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and especially loved his flower gardens.

Survivors include three sisters, Celia Harris of Auburn, Esther Hanscome of Mechanic Falls, and Lucy Fitzsimmons of Portland; three brothers and their wives, Frank and Francoise Ford of Mechanic Falls, Henry and Ada Ford of Alaska, and John and Mary (Louise) Ford of Minot; a sister-in-law, Jeannette (Jean) Harris of Minot; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was predeceased by two brothers, John Jr. and Amos Harris.
