We want to publicly thank Gov. Baldacci. We are grateful that he has come up with a plan that will make it possible for us to keep buying the drugs we need to keep our health.
We’ve worked hard all our lives and, even though we’re “retirement age” now, we’re still working two jobs each so we can pay all our bills. When we heard about the new Medicare Part D prescription drug plan, we were worried. All the plans under Part D include premiums, deductibles and other costs we can’t afford. And, with over 40 plans to choose from, we didn’t know where to start.
Right now, we’ve been getting help from the state Drugs for the Elderly Program. We pay 20 percent of the cost of most of our drugs. But starting Jan. 1 we knew we were going to have to switch to a Part D plan we couldn’t afford. We didn’t know what to do.
We were so relieved when we found out the the governor has taken action to help all the seniors and disabled Mainers in the Drugs for the Elderly Program. The staff at DHHS is going to enroll us in a Part D plan that will work for us. And the state will help us with the cost of premiums, deductibles and co-pays, so we’ll still be able to afford our drugs.
Thank you Gov. Baldacci.
Jean and Herschel Greenleaf,
Winthrop
