BETHEL – Marcum “Clayton” Sweatt, 80, of Bethel, died at his home on Tuesday, Dec. 27.
He was born in West Paris on Jan. 8, 1925, the son of Marcum and Winona (Fuller) Sweatt Sr. He was educated in local schools and graduated from Gould Academy.
After graduation, he joined the Navy, where he attended electronics school.
After leaving the Navy, he worked in California as an electronics repairman for a short time before moving back to Maine where he had a TV repair business for many years, retiring in 1985. He then worked for the town of Bethel for 15 years, retiring in March due to ill health.
Clayton was a member of the United Church of God in Portsmouth, N.H.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Mary (Tolle) Sweatt, of Bethel; one brother, Skip Davis of Hanover; one half brother, Justin Sweatt of Brocton, Mass.; two half sisters, Pat Mikla of Charleston, N.H., and Phyllis Farar-Stone of Florida; and two nephews and a niece.
