PARIS – Jurors to be selected next month for criminal jury trials in Paris may have a multitude of cases to consider.
Barring last-minute negotiations between defense lawyers and prosecutors on Wednesday, Jan. 4, in Oxford County Superior Court jurors chosen Monday, Jan. 9, would decide 77 scheduled cases.
The crimes range from felonies to simple misdemeanors.
Among the major felony cases listed Wednesday on the criminal jury trial list for Justice Robert E. Crowley, are the following:
• Steven Morton, 20, of Rumford, who is charged with raping and assaulting a 2-year-old girl in September in Rumford.
• New Hampshire men Thomas Bellen, 31, Benjamin Wheeler, 26, and Jeremy Ferren, 25, who are charged with burglarizing a Fryeburg home on July 25, then robbing and assaulting the resident with a shotgun and bedpost, and doing more than $2,000 damage to the home.
• Peter Cortez Jr., 28, and Ramona Bedard, 48, both of Berlin, N.H., and Anthony Payton, 30, of New York, who are charged with conspiracy and cocaine trafficking after being arrested on May 28 on Route 26 in West Paris when their car had a flat tire and an Oxford County Sheriff’s deputy, who stopped to help, found the drugs and a pistol in the car.
• Tammy Blanchard, 34, of Portland, Wendell Gildard, 41, of Naples, and Jarrett Rossi, 31, of Casco, all charged with theft for taking more than $11,000 in movie DVDs from the Mexico Wal-Mart in August.
• Douglas Gilpatrick, 25, and Roy Ames, 29, both of Norway, charged with arson, burglary and aggravated criminal mischief.
• Matthew J. Plante, 47, of Rumford, charged with stealing more than $5,000 from Moontide Water Festival Inc. between June 28 and Oct. 3, 2004.
• Alvah Pike IV, 24, and Scott Benjamin Pike, 22, both of Mexico, charged with siccing their two pit bull dogs on a Mexico man on Sept. 28
