BETHEL – Barbara M. Lucas, 86, of Bethel, died peacefully at her home on Dec. 25.

She was born May 6, 1919, at the Kimball farm in Rumford Center, the daughter of Nahum P. Moore and Dorothy K. Moore. She graduated from Gould Academy, Class of 1937. She attended Westbrook Junior College and graduated from Bates College in 1942.

She began her teaching career at Fryeburg Academy the same year. She also taught at Lawrence High School in Fairfield and Valley High School in Bingham, and retired from Madawaska High School in 1980. She then returned to her beloved Bethel and spent her remaining years there.

After her retirement, she was an avid bridge player and enjoyed being a member of the Frisky Fours. She especially enjoyed the family gatherings at their camp in Embden.

Barbara was loved by all who knew her. Her kindness and grace extended far beyond her family.

She had a book published, “Hell You Can Drive,” and a record demo.

She is survived by her daughter, Kim Vicneire and husband, Jimmy, of North Anson; granddaughters, Susan Goss, with whom she shared a special bond, and fianc, Jim Roy, of Waterville, and Ann Tibbetts and husband, Shannon, of Athens; grandsons, Paul Vicneire and wife, Heidi, of Embden, Chris Vicneire and fiance, Holley Dunphy, of North Anson, and James Vicneire Jr. and wife, Kelly, of Bingham; great-grandchildren, Cristie Vicneire, Jenna and Jared Goss, Nicholas Sansone, Makayla Vicneire and Melanie Vicneire; several cousins; a lifelong friend, Margaret Joy Tibbetts; and special friend and adopted daughter, Janet Willie.
