RANGELEY – A Rangeley woman reported that prescription drugs were taken during a burglary of her apartment earlier this week.

According to Mike Hall, patrolman with the Rangeley Police Department, the burglary occurred sometime between 5:30 and 10:30 p.m. Dec. 26 when a Saddleback View apartment was broken into. Hall declined to provide the identity or exact address of the victims in the interest of protecting them.

According to a police report, the couple returned Monday evening to find their Christmas tree and a shelf knocked over but assumed it was the work of their dog. However, the next morning, they discovered prescription drugs missing and graffiti on the wall of a downstairs room. The vandal spray-painted “next time” on the wall, Hall said Friday.

Taken in the break-in were 92 Desoxyn pills, a methamphetamine used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and 15 Zyprexa pills, used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disease.

One of the residents said she believes the burglar may be someone they know because their dog would have likely warded off an unknown intruder. Police have no suspects in the case, Hall said.
