AUBURN – The Auburn Exchange Club received a $2,250 donation from the Auburn Wal-Mart to assist the Christmas Giving Program.

Cecil Wheeler, Exchange Club’s Christmas Giving Program chairman, said 2005 is the 15th year that the club has run the program. Every child receives a new coat, hat, gloves, shirt and socks, plus a toy.

Wheeler estimates that with the Wal-Mart gift, the program assisted 25 families with 79 children this year.

To date, the Auburn Exchange Club has spent more than $100,000 on families and has assisted 400 families and more than 1,100 children.

The Exchange Club is an all-volunteer, national service organization for men and women who want to serve their community, develop leadership skills and start new friendships.

Programs include Americanism, community service, youth activities, and its national project, the prevention of child abuse.
