NEWPORT (AP) – A Hartland woman died when a truck driven by her husband ran over her in an accident in a truck stop parking lot, police said.

The trucker believed it was safe to pull forward because he thought his wife was walking behind the cab of the tractor-trailer, Police Chief Leonard Macdaid said. It was dark and raining heavily when the accident happened at 8:43 p.m. Thursday, he said.

Kermit Badger, 56, pulled forward and to the right to make room for another tractor-trailer that was coming toward him in the parking lot. Barbara Badger, who was walking toward the front of the tractor, died instantly.

Kermit Badger, who had just returned from a run to Chicago, had dropped off his trailer and had taken his wife out to dinner, Macdaid said.
