BUXTON – The Pine Tree State Country Music Association, a nonprofit organization with the goal of promoting country music and country music artists, will hold its annual talent search and competition awards show on May 21 at the Roost in West Buxton.

Many Maine artists have started their career through the contest. There are many categories, such as bands, singers, duets, instrumentalists, songwriters, recording, modern and traditional. A panel of judges make the decisions and winners are announced at the show, which is open to the public. There will also be entertainment by some of Maine’s top artists.

The next association event will be a Valentine show/dance from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, at the Windham Eagles, Route 302, Windham. Some of Maine’s top bands and performers will entertain.

The association, along with Pauline Curless, established the Dick Curless Memorial Scholarship. A show is held, featuring some of Maine’s top stars, each year to support the project.

The association has compiled a book of “Country Music Artists of Maine,” copies of which were donated to the major libraries in Maine. Paperback editions are available to the public.
