WESTBROOK – The Maine Credit Union League and Maine’s 73 affiliated credit unions were honored with two awards at the recent 28th annual Pro & Blockbuster Awards competition, held in Washington, D.C.
The Maine league received awards for both of its entries, taking a first place award for Community Relations for its Campaign for Ending Hunger, and a second place award for its Web site, www.mainecul.org.
Communications and public relations professionals from national organizations served as judges for this year’s awards.
The panel of judges call the efforts for ending hunger in Maine “a true example not only of the credit union philosophy of people helping people’ but of what a successful grassroots community service program is all about. Ending hunger has high awareness in Maine, due in part to Maine’s credit unions.” Since 1990, the campaign has raised more than $1.75 million to help end hunger in Maine.
This marked the fourth consecutive year that the league was honored for its Web site, which judges called “an outstanding destination for consumers to find information about financial services.”
