WILTON – Edna Lottie Smith, 85, of Wilton, died peacefully at her home in Wilton, in the early morning hours on Thursday Jan. 5.

She was born June 9, 1920, in Farmington, a daughter of Chester B. Ranger and Hattie L. (Vining) Ranger Sawtelle. She received her education in Wilton schools and was a 1938 graduate of Wilton Academy.

On Jan. 28, 1940, she married Thale Earland Smith in Wilton. He died on Aug. 21, 1995. During World War II, they moved to South Portland, where for many years she enjoyed catering, bartending and serving as a hostess at Valley’s Restaurant and at Lano’s in South Portland.

Her hobbies included cooking, knitting, crocheting, painting and collecting Indian dolls. In her free time, she enjoyed watching Emeril on the cooking channel.

She is survived by five sons, Cary and his wife, Monique, of Augusta, Ga., Larry, of Albany, Ga., John, of San Fernandino Beach, Fla., Bruce, of Farmington and Dennis, of Las Vegas, Nev.; three daughters, Merrilee “Mickey” Smith, of Rochester, N.H., Sandra Dixon and her husband, John, of Panama City Beach, Fla., and Sharon Pelletier, of Peru; 21 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by siblings, Oscar Ranger, Olive Bradeen and Methyl Perry; and one grandson, Randy Smith.
