CONCORD, N.H. (AP) – A Lynn, Mass., man who pleaded guilty to counterfeiting money was sentenced Thursday to two years in federal prison.
Prosecutors said Ronald Elwell, 21, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to make and pass counterfeit $100 bills.
Elwell will be on probation for three years after he is released from prison.
Mother, daughter rescued after car skids into water
NASHUA, N.H. (AP) – A woman and her young daughter escaped serious injury Thursday when their car slid off a snowy road and landed on its side in a brook.
Witnesses tied a strap from the car to a van to prevent the car from tipping over in the two-foot deep water.
Rescuers responded quickly because they were at another accident up the street. They got the 43-year-old woman and her 6-year-old daughter out. Officials say the victims suffered minor injuries.
Vt. woman dead in N.H. crash
PLAINFIELD, N.H. (AP) – A White River Junction, Vt., woman was killed Thursday after the southbound car she was driving crossed the road and struck another vehicle head-on on Route 12A, police said.
She was identified as Nancy Bean, 51.
The other car, police said, was driven Ronald Morgen, 74, of Claremont. He and Pamela Morgen, 60, of Claremont, were taken to a hospital. The extent of their injuries wasn’t known.
Tewksbury man gets 4 to 6 years for motor vehicle homicide
LOWELL, Mass. (AP) – A Tewksbury man was sentenced Thursday to four to six years in state prison after pleading guilty to motor vehicle homicide and drunken driving.
Donald Warren, 31, was sentenced in Middlesex Superior Court after changing his plea from innocent to guilty in connection with the March 2004 death of Ronald Olson, 22, of Tewksbury.
In addition to his time behind bars, Warren was sentenced to five years probation following his prison term; had his license suspended; ordered to undergo evaluation for alcohol abuse; ordered not to drink any alcoholic beverages and undergo random alcohol screening; and ordered to perform 100 hours of community service with the Brains at Risk program.
Warren was drunk and speeding in the early morning hours of March 13, 2004, when he lost control of his eastbound vehicle, authorities said. He struck the median, went airborne and his vehicle landed on top of the westbound car driven by Olson, authorities said. Olson was pronounced dead at the scene. Several other people were injured.
