BETHEL – Two of three Portland women suffered minor injuries after the car they were in spun off Route 5 in Thursday morning’s snowstorm and slammed into a utility pole, police said.
Hannah Small, 18, the driver of a 1999 Volkswagen Passat, and front-seat passenger Elizabeth McCarthy, 19, both suffered facial cuts, said Bethel police Chief Alan Carr on Thursday afternoon.
They were treated at the scene by Bethel Rescue.
Rear-seat passenger, Sarah Muir, 20, was not injured.
Carr said the trio was headed north on Route 5, also known as Songo Pond Road, at 9:27 a.m. to ski at Sunday River Ski Resort in Newry when the accident happened.
Carr said the vehicle spun completely around before it struck the pole on the passenger-side door. The pole broke in half, but a Central Maine Power crew temporarily fixed it until they can return with a new pole, Carr said.
The car was totaled.
The accident was one of several in the area that occurred during Thursday’s snowstorm, Carr said.
