Spirit workshop

AUGUSTA – “Spirits of Peace – Spirits of Love,” a workshop presented by the Rev. Nancy Parry, will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at the Augusta Spiritualist Church. Donations are $20.

Registration set

AUGUSTA – Students who have not yet registered for semester courses at the University of Maine at Augusta should do so before classes begin on Tuesday, Jan. 17.

Courses are offered on UMA’s Augusta campus as well as at the University College of Bangor and several satellite centers.

Scholarship

BRIDGTON – Maine Media Women is sponsoring a scholarship for Maine women who intend to pursue communications careers in journalism, radio and television, public relations, art, photography, design and other communications fields.

All Maine women residents are invited to compete for the scholarship even if they are attending out-of-state colleges and universities. The winner will be awarded $700.

Students can download applications at www.mainemediawomen.org. High school and college guidance and financial aid offices in Maine have been mailed copies of forms.

Students will be asked to write an essay to be mailed in by April to MMW Scholarship Committee Chairwoman Jude Stone, 9 Sanborns Grove Road, Bridgton, ME 04009. The scholarship will be awarded at the spring conference in May.

Jaycees chapter

SOUTH PORTLAND – The Greater Portland Area Jaycees are planning to open a new chapter. A meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday Jan. 18, at the Maine Mall Weathervane.

The Jaycees are a group of people ages 18 to 40 who help people by focusing on personal growth and professional development through civic and community involvement.
