AUBURN – Francis J. Prue, 94, of First Street, Lewiston, died Saturday, Jan. 7, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care.
He was born in Fairfield on June 2, 1911, the son of Edward and Josephine (Matthieu) Prue, and attended schools in Fairfield.
On July 19, 1932, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served during World War II as first lieutenant until his retirement from active service on March 24, 1946.
Following his service to his country, he, along with his brother Louis, owned and operated the Gray General Store in Gray from 1947 to 1968.
On June 2, 1969, he married Mary Hayes.
Frank enjoyed the outdoors. He loved nature, gardening, and especially taking care of his flower garden at his home.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Mary Prue, of Lewiston; his sister, Louise Matthieu of Madison; his sister-in-law, Beth Prue of New Gloucester; several nephews and a niece; a stepson, Charles B. Hayes of Las Vegas, Nev.; five step-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; and four step-great-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Lawrence and Louis; and a stepson, Dr. Kenneth Hayes.
