LEWISTON – State legislators are coordinating efforts with local businesses and agencies to raise more than $12,000 for local families to help heat their homes this winter as a part of the Keep ME Warm initiative established by Gov. John Baldacci last fall.

Rep. Margaret Craven, D-Lewiston, and Sen. Peggy Rotundo, D-Lewiston, along with Lewiston Democratic Reps. Elaine Makas, Lillian LaFontaine O’Brien and Will Walcott, have initiated two fundraising projects in the Lewiston area.

The legislators are working with Tom Platz and Pat Maiorino at Bates Mill LLC, which has promised up to $5,000 in matching funds to donations from area businesses and individuals.

An account has been established at Androscoggin Bank for donations.

The delegation will also host the “Charitable Fuel Fund Dinner” at the Lewiston Multi-Purpose Center from 5 to 9 p.m. on Feb. 3. The event, coordinated with SeniorsPlus, will feature entertainment, prizes and a lasagna dinner with salad and dessert.

The cost is $5 per person, paid at the door, with all proceeds going to the Keep ME Warm initiative for Androscoggin County families.

If you are interested in making a donation, please make checks payable to: Keep ME Warm Charitable Fuel Fund, c/o Androscoggin Bank, P.O. Box 1407, Lewiston, ME 04243, Attn.: Keep ME Warm Fund. You can specify that you want your donation to come back to your community.

While there is no official deadline; organizers are hoping that donations will be made soon as winter has already begun and there is an abundant need for aid in the area.

For more information on these initiatives, phone Rep. Craven at 783-1897.
