BOSTON (AP) – A man and a woman were shot to death and a third victim was wounded in Boston on Sunday night in the city’s first homicides of 2006.
Police responding to a call about a shooting in the city’s Allston neighborhood at about 9:30 p.m. found the victims inside a second-floor unit in an apartment building on Kelton Street, Officer John Boyle said.
Police later confirmed that two, a man and a woman, had died. One was shot in the head, one in the back.
The third victim, a male who was shot in the right arm, suffered non life-threatening injuries and was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Superintendent Bobbie Johnson said.
Police did not immediately release the victims’ identities.
Police are questioning an elderly woman who lived in the apartment and may have witnessed the shootings, Johnson said.
Witnesses told police they saw two men run from the scene. One is a white male. The other one is a black male wearing a red and green plaid jacket who is thought to be armed, police said.
Police and politicians have been trying to crack down on violence in Boston after the city experienced a 10-year high of 75 murders last year. Most remain unsolved.
