NEWRY – The Black Diamond Family Entertainment Series will presents Laughing Pizza, new family musical group, at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, at the Grand Ballroom, Grand Summit Resort Hotel, Sunday River Ski Resort. Elks supper

RUMFORD – Rumford Lodge of Elks will hold a meat pie supper from 4:30 to 6 p.m. or until sold out on Thursday, Jan. 12. The menu will consist of meat pie, chicken pie, salmon pie with white sauce, mashed potatoes, string beans, rolls, coffee and dessert. Cost for adults is $6 and $3 for children under 12. Take-out will be available.

Proceeds will go to the Elks National Foundation, which supports the drug awareness program, hoop shoot, soccer shoot and scholarships. For more information, call Sandee Welch at 364-2548.

Tres Dias meeting

DIXFIELD – The next Tres Dias gathering will be a potluck supper from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, at the Dixfield Congregational Church, High Street.

Trout Unlimited

PARIS – Mollyockett Trout Unlimited will hold the Wednesday, Jan. 18, social meeting at 7 p.m. at the River Restaurant, Route 26, West Paris.

The speaker will be Rod McGarry, fly fishing coach and L.L. Bean casting instructor.

His presentation will be on “Seven Successful Strategies for Stillwater Trout.” Those who want to have dinner should arrive around 6 p.m.

School play

RUMFORD – Mountain Valley High School’s fall play will be “The Traveling Shows” by Russell Davis, directed by Nancy O. DeMilner. It will be held at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Jan. 13 and 14, at Muskie Auditorium, Mountain Valley High School.

Cost for tickets at the door is $5 or $3 for students and seniors.

Church supper

MEXICO – A public supper will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at the Mexico UCC Green Church, Main Street.

Menu will consist of turkey and all the fixings and homemade pies. Cost will be $7 for adults and $3 for children under 12.

Sock Hop

RUMFORD – The Eagles Club will hold a Sock Hop from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday, Jan. 14, with all proceeds to benefit breast cancer research and counseling in Maine. There will be a $2 donation at the door.

Members and guests are welcome.

Snow qualifier

NEWRY – Sunday River will feature a NextSnow Search Qualifier event on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 21 and 22. Skiers and riders age 9 to 13 will compete in halfpipe and slopestyle for a position at the NextSnow Search Finals to be held at Killington, Vt.

Twenty-five entrants to the final competition will be selected to be part of this year’s Sports Illustrated for Kids NextSnow team. Judges pick the NextSnow team based upon style, technique, attitude and personality.

Registration will take place from 8 to 9:30 a.m. upstairs in Barker Lodge on Saturday and Sunday.

The competition will begin at 10:35 a.m. on each day and awards will be given out at about 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. Entry is free, but requires a lift ticket for the day.
