Free classes

WOODSTOCK – Nancy Willard will offer two introductory classes of tai chi from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursdays, Jan. 19 and 26, at the Whitman Memorial Library. Tai chi is a gentle, stretching exercise for seniors or anyone. It is free and all are welcome.

Sunday sermon

NORWAY – The service for Sunday, Jan. 15, at the First Universalist Church, Norway, Unitarian Universalist, 479 Main St., will be at 11 a.m. Child care will be provided as well as a religious education program for children. Choir practice will be at 9:30 a.m. with Heather Pierson, music director.

The service will be led by Rodney Abbott, retired English teacher. His topic will be “Poetry, Nature and God.” All loose offering will be donated to St Mary’s Sisters of Charity Haiti Project. All are invited.

Suppers to resume

WATERFORD – The Wilkins Community House community suppers will resume at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19. The suppers are held on the third Thursday of each month.

Those attending are asked to bring a dish to share with neighbors and bring a friend. Hosts for the January supper will be Joann Fillebrown and David Marston.

The Wilkins Community House is located on Plummer Hill Road in Waterford Flat behind the Common and next door to the church.

Trout Unlimited

PARIS – Mollyockett Trout Unlimited will hold the Wednesday, Jan. 18, social meeting at 7 p.m. at the River Restaurant, Route 26, West Paris. The speaker will be Rod McGarry, fly fishing coach and L.L. Bean casting instructor.

His presentation will be on “Seven Successful Strategies for Stillwater Trout.” Those who want to have dinner should arrive around 6 p.m.

Snow qualifier

NEWRY – Sunday River will feature a NextSnow Search Qualifier event on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 21 and 22. Skiers and riders age 9 to 13 will compete in halfpipe and slopestyle for a position at the NextSnow Search Finals to be held at Killington, Vt.

Twenty-five entrants to the final competition will be selected to be part of this year’s Sports Illustrated for Kids NextSnow team. Judges pick the NextSnow team based upon style, technique, attitude and personality.

Registration will take place from 8 to 9:30 a.m. upstairs in Barker Lodge on Saturday and Sunday. The competition will begin at 10:35 a.m. on each day and awards will be given out at about 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. Entry is free, but requires a lift ticket for the day.
