Society meeting

FARMINGTON – The Sandy River Valley Chapter, Maine Genealogical Society, will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at the Farmington Public Library. The program will focus on “Sharing of Old Family Photographs,” with emphasis on how to identify and date some unknowns in a collection.

Anyone with an interest in genealogy is welcome to attend and is asked to bring old photographs.

Square dance

WILTON – The public is welcome to join the Friendship Squares for a dance from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at Cushing School. The club caller is Lee Kennedy, and Carol Stewart does the rounds. All are welcome.

Calendars available

STRATTON – The Dead River Area Historical Society still has pictorial calendars available. The calendar features photos of groups or school class events from the area in previous years.

They are available at Pine’s Market, Northland Cash and Fotter’s Market or can be purchased through the mail for $6 plus $1.30 postage for each calendar. Send to Dead River Area Historical Society, PO Box 150, Stratton, ME 04982.

There are calendars left from previous years for sale at $2.50 each. For more information, call Mary Hopson at 246-6901.

Silent auction

CARRABASSETT VALLEY – A silent auction will benefit Casting for Recovery, women cancer patients’ fly-casting classes, on Saturday, Jan. 28. Wine and appetizers will be served during the auction, which will take place between 5 and 7 p.m. at Gold/Smith Gallery at Sugarloaf. There will also be raffles throughout the silent bidding period.
