BETHEL – The Oxford County Democrats are planning a series of regional meetings during January and February to prepare for the caucus meetings on Sunday, Feb. 26, and for the campaign season.

County Chairwoman Cathy Newell has secured caucus convenors for all of the towns in the county, and there will be a combination of gatherings held in individual municipalities and groups of towns choosing to meet together at a regional location.

The business of the caucus will include election of town committee officers, representatives to the county committee, nomination of municipal ballot clerks and election of delegates to the 2006 Maine Democratic Party Convention, which will be held the first weekend in June in Augusta.

Bethel area Democrats will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, at Telstar High School, and the River Valley Area Democrats will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, at the Mexico Town Hall.

A meeting will be held in Oxford Hills and the Sacopee region at dates to be finalized. The Mexico, Oxford Hills and Sacopee meetings will include caucus training.

Anyone interested in or planning to run for office as a Democrat in 2006 is especially invited to attend the meetings. Anyone interested in involvement with the Oxford County Democrats may contact Newell, 875-2116.
