RANGELEY – The state pharmacy board reinstated the license of Rangeley pharmacist Joey McLafferty Tuesday.

McLafferty’s license had been suspended in June after a state pharmacy inspector discovered state and federal security violations, including not securing prescription drugs, at Riddle’s Pharmacy in Rangeley, owned by McLafferty.

McLafferty has taken care of everything the board required of him in the consent agreement, Anne Head, director of the Office of Licensing and Registration, said Tuesday. No restrictions were put on his license, she said.

The state launched an investigation after Rangeley police received a tip that two teenage employees and a former employee were stealing drugs from the store. The three girls, then 15 and 16, pleaded guilty to various charges last year.

McLafferty made the pharmacy area in his store more secure as required by law to prohibit access to prescription drugs by unauthorized personnel and made other necessary changes.

He also passed a state exam and worked under a supervising pharmacist for 14 days.

McLafferty is now operating the pharmacy by himself, he said Tuesday.
