Church series
LEWISTON – Thomas Memorial Baptist Church, 62 Strawberry Ave., will begin a special series celebrating the “Forty Days of Purpose” from 10:45 a.m. to noon starting Sunday, Jan. 15.
It will conclude on Feb. 23. The program was initiated by Pastor Rick Warren. For more information, call 784-0034 and Pastor Gary Bragg will return the call.
Cheering contest
JAY – The 19th annual Mountain Valley Conference Cheering Championship will be held Saturday, Jan. 14, at Jay High School. Teams from Boothbay, Monmouth Academy, Lisbon, Winthrop, Livermore Falls, Mountain Valley, Dirigo, Jay and Carrabec will compete. Gates will open at 8:30 a.m. and competition will start at 11. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for students.
Open meeting
AUBURN – Anyone interested in finding out more Rebekah Lodge work is invited to attend an open meeting of Liberty Rebekah Lodge at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, at the Odd Fellows Hall, 50 Elm St.
Representatives from the Rebekah Assembly of Maine will present a program. Rebekah is an international association.
Other Rebekah lodges in the area have received special invitations to attend and bring a friend to a potluck supper at 6 p.m., co-chaired by Pam Black and Cynthia Maxwell. During the meeting a collection will be taken for the Visual Research Fund of the international association.

Seniors lunch
AUBURN – The First Auburn Senior Citizens will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, at Hasty Community Center. Members should bring their cups and utensils. Lunch will be spaghetti and bingo will be played after lunch.
The club met Jan. 4 with President Caroline Chapman presiding. There were 73 present. Attendance winners were Joanne Webb and Martha Goodwin.
Pot of gold winners were Irene Fraser, Felix Yurkston and Lucien Marcoux. Bingo was played after lunch.
