LEEDS – Androscoggin County Sheriff’s deputies are going door to door this week, advising neighbors that a registered sex offender has moved to town.

Police say Richard Wing, 57, has moved to 131 Plains Road after serving part of a 2-year prison sentence for molesting a child.

In July 2003, Wing was convicted in Androscoggin County Superior Court on a charge of unlawful sexual contact. He was accused of having repeated sexual contact with a girl in Lewiston for several years beginning when she was less than 14 years old.

Wing was convicted of the charge and sentenced to four years in prison with all but 2 suspended. He was also ordered to serve four years of probation upon release. Wing is currently serving that probation term.

Police began notifying Leeds residents on Tuesday in part because Wing scored high on an assessment test designed to measure his risk of offending again.

Wing is also required to register as a sex offender with the state. As of Wednesday afternoon, he was not yet listed on the Maine Sex Offender Registry.
