NEW SHARON – Selectmen were notified that State Police found the town’s stolen safe, minus the $400 that was inside it, in Mount Vernon.
Selectman Russ Gardner said the police left the message about the safe on his home answering machine while he was away last week.
There were still some town papers in the safe and some were blowing around that police recovered, Gardner said Thursday.
A forced entry was made into the town office sometime after 9:30 p.m. Dec. 27 and the safe was stolen.

No other information on the safe’s recovery was available Thursday.
Fayette’s Town Office was also broken into the same day and $10 in coins were taken as well as keys and a digital recorder.
Town Manager Mark Robinson said Jan. 6 that he had not heard of the case being resolved yet.
