A newspaper correspondent sends out the information that the Young Women’s Christian association of Philadelphia has declared in a new rule that “girls” of 35 years or over are wise enough in the good and evil ways of the world to take care of themselves and must therefore withdraw from membership.

The nation’s only remaining “ringdown” telephone system is to be featured on NBC’s Real People program, scheduled for viewing Wednesday at 8 p.m.

Filmed at the home of Bryant Pond Telephone Company owner Elden R. Hathaway, where the telephone service is located, the segment features Real People star “Skip Stevenson at the switchboard.”

When Stevenson and the seven-man NBC-TV crew invaded the Rumford Avenue telephone office last fall “the place was a turmoil” says Sue Glines, Hathaway’s daughter and part-time operator.

Once Stevenson got the hang of it, said Mrs. Glines, there was no stopping him. In fact, the only shot of Mrs. Hathaway, the full-time operator, was a “still pic” because the TV star wouldn’t relinquish the position for the duration of the filming.
