ORONO – Former Valley High School player Brian Andre has transferred into the University of Maine men’s basketball program. Black Bears head coach Ted Woodward announced on Friday that the 6-foot-9, 300-pound forward has joined the team after playing two years at the University of Buffalo. Andre has started practicing with the Black Bears and will be eligible to compete following the 2006 fall semester.

Andre saw action in 35 career games at the University of Buffalo, which had a combined record of 40-22 over that span.

Athletes named to Hall of Fame

PORTLAND – Roy “Joe” Dyke of Wilton and Galen Sayward of Farmington are two of the 10 new members of the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame, which will hold its 2006 induction ceremony on July 23.

Dyke was a perennial All-Star second baseman in the semi-pro Pine Tree League and Timber League in Franklin Country, and played in the National Amateur tournament in Battle Creek, Mich., in 1948.

Sayward enjoyed a distinguished career with the semi-pro Farmington Flyers in the Pine Tree league and organized the first Babe Ruth League in Farmington.

Also being inducted are John “Tardy” Burns, of Vassalboro; Bruce Glazier, of Cape Elizabeth; Rick Knight, of Westbrook; Dennis Libbey, of Bangor; Alan Livingston, of South Portland; Bob MacHardy, of Westbrook; Steve Merrill, of Windham; Peter “Buster” Pompeo, of Portland; and Ron Farr, of Portland.
