LEWISTON – The Maine Public Broadcasting Network will broadcast Financial Aid for College, a television program dedicated to helping students and parents negotiate the process of finding money to pay for higher education.
Financial Aid for College will be shown at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, as a live program featuring a panel of education and financial aid experts who will answer questions from the public. At 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, MPBN will rebroadcast the previous night’s show. Related financial aid resources are available at MPBN’s Web site: mpbn.net.
Loans, grants, scholarships and other funding options will be examined and discussed by show host Ann Murray and a guest panel that includes Ron Milliken, financial aid director at the University of Maine at Farmington; Dan Hart, principal of Dirigo High School in Dixfield; and Anne Reed, regulatory and compliance officer for the Finance Authority of Maine.
The show will profile the recent experiences of the Libby family of Norridgewock. Parents Lou and Katherine have twice gone through the financial aid process-first with their son, who has since graduated and is repaying his student loans, and then with their daughter, now a sophomore at the University of Maine. There will also be a segment offering tips on completing the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) federal form.
“Securing a college education is a significant life achievement that can greatly expand career options. This show and the resources found on MPBN’s Web site are very timely because thousands of Maine residents are focused getting a college education but wonder how to pay for it,” said MPBN spokeswoman Deborah Johnson.
Funding for Financial Aid for College comes from The Bernard Osher Foundation with resources provided in part by the New England Board of Higher Education.
