Betterment group

LIVERMORE FALLS – The Livermore Falls Betterment Group will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, at the Chuck Wagon Restaurant. The agenda will include a gazebo market update, downtown history night, dues structure and a time for meeting the new town manager.

Bird festival

JAY – Seventh-graders in Rob Taylor’s class have organized a bird festival with hands-on interactive activities to be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, at the Jay Elementary School. Students from the middle and high school are participating in the event that will also feature other projects and samples of moon rock.

Benefit supper

FARMINGTON – A benefit spaghetti supper for the Hurley, Beisaw and Ladd families, all of whom are coping with cancer, will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at Mt. Blue High School. The cost is by donation.

Entertainment will be provided by the Syncopations, Mt. Blue Jazz Band, Mt. Blue Voices and horse-drawn wagon rides provided by Winter Hill Farms, weather permitting.

Elks dinner

FARMINGTON – The Farmington Elks Lodge 2430 will host a spaghetti dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, at the lodge hall to benefit the scholarship fund. Doors will be open at 4:30 p.m. The menu will include spaghetti with meat sauce, tossed salad, garlic bread sticks, warm brownie delight with beverages. For more information, call 778-6761.

Beekeeper school

RUMFORD – The Western Maine Beekeepers Association will hold its annual beekeeping school starting Wednesday, Jan. 18. Registration will be held at 6 p.m. at Mountain Valley High School.

Classes will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays for 12 weeks. Area beekeepers will teach the sessions. The cost of $25 includes books and handouts. Throughout the summer, club members hold open hive meetings to demonstrate the application of the information that was presented in class.
