Twin Cities Dog licenses deadline Jan. 31

The deadline for dog owners to license their pets with the state of Maine is Jan. 31. The fee for animals that have been spayed or neutered is $6. Others will cost $10. The state tacks on a $15 late fee after Jan. 31 and a steeper $25 fee after Feb. 8.

In Lewiston and Auburn, city clerks register dog licenses. Lewiston residents may contact the city clerk at 784-2956, ext. 217, for more information. Auburn residents with questions may call 333-6600.

Auburn: Looking for more public input

Hoping to hear from more residents on what they want, Auburn School Committee members David Das and Robert Baskett are exploring how Auburn schools can better share information.

Auburn schools haven’t “done a particularly good job communicating to the public,” Das said. It’s up to officials to be proactive and encourage more taxpayers “to come and voice concerns. We want to hear what they’re thinking and feeling, not just now in this moment of a property tax valuation crisis.”

Input from an informed community will better ensure good decisions are made as elected officials tackle the budget in February and March, both said.

Das and Baskett will give their recommendations to the committee during a February retreat.
