LEWISTON – Gerald D. Godin, 84, of Dunn Street, Auburn, died unexpectedly early Saturday morning, Jan. 14, at Central Maine Medical Center.

He was born and raised in New Auburn by his parents, George and Alma (Simard) Godin.

He served in the Pacific region with the U.S. Army during World War II where he mastered his carpentry skills. Over the years he became an accomplished contractor and was known for his perfection.

In 1946, he married Rita M. Benoit and together they resided in New Auburn for their 59 years of marriage. Rita passed away on Dec. 16, 2005.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 153 in New Auburn. He loved baseball. Since the 1930s he was a loyal fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. Most of all he was a kind and generous man who for many years volunteered his time for Catholic Charities Maine S.E.A.R.C.H. program for the elderly.

He is survived by a son, Stanley, of Honolulu, Hawaii; a daughter, Joyce Kyllonen and her husband, Wayne, of Poland; two grandsons, Craig and Kyle Kyllonen; three brothers, Roland and his wife, Carmen, of Lewiston, Marcel and his wife, Therese, of New Auburn, Louis (Bert) and his wife, Lucille, of Lewiston; and a sister, Therese Lafontaine and her husband, Richard, of New Auburn.

He was predeceased by his wife; and a sister, Priscilla Labrie, and her husband, Wilfrid (Bill).
