JAY – International Paper’s No. 1 paper machine that was idled last April is expected to come back online to produce rolled pulp.
The pulp will be shipped to IP’s Bucksport Mill, then be cut up and refined and used in making lightweight coated paper, IP spokesman Bill Cohen said Thursday.
“We are in the process of getting everything in line to hopefully have pulp come off that machine at the end of the month,” Cohen said.
IP required the paper machine to be disabled last year so that it would never make paper again.
The company is in the process of selling its Maine paper mills and is expected to announce this year what the plans are for them.
A new manager took over the Androscoggin Mill in Jay earlier this month, Cohen said.
Dick Jackson of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., became the new manager on Jan. 3. Former Manager Rildo Martini, who will be staying with IP as it goes through its transformation process, is working on special projects.
IP announced last year that it planned to sell or spin off its coated paper-making mills, including Jay and Bucksport.
