CUMBERLAND – A hands-on sheep shearing school is planned for Saturday, March 25, at Sun Rise Acres, 42 Winn Road. There is space for 22 individuals to participate. The course is $20 and includes lunch. The public is invited to watch sheep being shorn.

The shearing school will be held from 8 a.m. to early afternoon. The school is sponsored by the University of Maine Cooperative Extension and the Maine Sheep Breeders Association.

Participants should be in good physical health, as shearing sheep takes leg, back and upper body strength.

David Averill and Richard Brzozowski will be the lead teachers. Joan Rolfe will demonstrate table shearing, proper wool handling and the procedure for skirting raw wool.

Call the Extension at 1-800-287-1471 for registration materials and additional information.
