NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Sidney H. Goddard, 56, of Central Street, formerly of Mechanic Falls, died peacefully at his home after a brief illness on Jan. 14.

He was born in Rumford, July 29, 1949, a son of Chester H. and Sylvia E. Goddard. He graduated from Mechanic Falls High School in 1968. He was an avid sportsman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the VFW Post 798 in Newport, Vt.

He proudly served in the United States Army, in the Infantry Division from 1971 to 1976.

He received his basic training at Fort Dix, N.J. He was then stationed in Korea on the Demilitarized Zone, Baumholder, Germany, and Fort Benning, Ga.

He was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant, Nov. 11, 1976. After his discharge, he attended the National School of Meat Cutting in Toledo, Ohio. He then worked for Grand Union and Shaw’s Supermarkets in Vermont.

He is survived by his wife, Victoria Goddard, whom he married on July 29; his mother, Sylvia E. Goddard, of Mechanic Falls; his son, Sidney E. Goddard and his fianc, Kellie Cloutier, of Poland; his daughter, Julie and her husband, the Rev. Andrew Theriault of Poland; his stepson, Adam Premo, of Northfield, Vt.; his siblings, Carol Rowe and her husband, George, of Oxford, Robert Goddard and his wife, Peggy, of Mechanic Falls, Stanley Goddard and his wife Willa, of Dayton, and Donna Holder, of Rumford Point; six grandchildren, Amanda Goddard of Lewiston, Kelsea, Adam and Caitlin Searles, Nicole and Caitlyn Theriault, all of Poland; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Goddard was also expecting his first great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Mae Goddard on Jan. 19.

He was predeceased by his father, Chester H. Goddard; his maternal and paternal grandparents; and a brother, Donald Goddard.
