JAY – Jay police were working with federal alcohol, tobacco and firearm agents Wednesday to investigate six handguns stolen from a Main Street gun shop Tuesday night.
Initially, four handguns were reported stolen just after 9 p.m. Tuesday. But after the shop’s owner did an inventory Wednesday morning, it was discovered that six guns had actually been taken from the gun vault, said Jay Police Chief Larry White Sr. on Wednesday.
The shop is located behind Shipper’s Express, opposite the Hyde Road and adjacent to Yianni’s Pizza on Main Street, which is also Route 4.
The guns taken were two Davis P-32s, a Glock 22, a Glock 30 short, a H & R Model 622 .22 caliber, and a Smith and Wesson 5906 9 mm, White said.
Detective Roderick Small is the lead investigator working with ATF agents on the case.
Trace evidence found at the scene may lead to suspects, White said.
Investigators do have some leads, he said, but are hoping anyone with information will call police at 897-6766.
All tips can remain anonymous, White said.
