LIVERMORE FALLS – Marcia Adams pulled out what she thought was a metal needle sticking in her cat Spaz’s neck Thursday morning.
She grabbed the end and pulled and was surprised to see how far the metal piece went in.
It wasn’t a needle that was in the cat’s neck. It was a 3- to 3-inch dart from a blowgun, Livermore Falls police officer Joseph Sage said Thursday.
He is investigating the shooting.
“When I pulled it out, I was shocked to see how long it was,” Adams said Thursday as she petted the gray and white cat on her lap, surrounded by several of her 21 grandchildren.
Her daughter Julie, who lives in the same Pleasant Pines Trailer Park off Route 17 in Livermore Falls, called her mother Thursday morning to tell her the cat was acting strangely and running all over the place and wouldn’t let Adams’ granddaughter pick it up.
The cat was at Lot 12, a couple of trailers away.
One of her grandchildren went over to get the cat and brought it back home, she said.
Adams called the police to find out who she should contact.
Animal Control Officer Wayne Atwood was notified and he brought the dart to the station for Sage to investigate the matter.
Usually the cat would come in and lie down with any of her grandchildren, Adams said, but the 3-year-old cat was not in the mood Thursday. He was growling at them if they got too close, she said.
He was also staying away from the other side of the trailer park, she said.
“I’m just fortunate one of the little ones didn’t pull it out and get it into them,” Adams said.
