PARIS – The Floyd Harlow Post 9787, VFW, and Auxiliary honored winners of the Patriot’s Pen Contest recently. Students in grades six to eight are encouraged to write, think and express political opinions in the contest.

Winners were Karianna Merrill, first; Kristen Madden, second; and Lauri Riihimaki, third. All are Oxford Hills Middle School eighth-graders.

Their teachers were also recognized for helping, guiding and encouraging them to take part in the contest. Teachers present were Pam Merz, Ann Bell and school counselor Carlene Treadwell, along with Principal Al Small.

All students received awards and monetary gifts.

Honored that same evening were those who lost their lives and those who survived the attack on Pearl Harbor.

The VFW Post and Auxiliary will meet Wednesday, Feb. 1. Members should bring casseroles or desserts for the pre-meeting supper at 6 p.m.. All veterans and their spouses are invited.
