NEWRY – Barbara D. Libby, 89, of Sabbathday Lake, New Gloucester, died Thursday, Jan. 19, at the home of her son Phillip.

She was born in Auburn, Aug. 26, 1916, a daughter of Edward and Margaret Finnegan Dufresne. She graduated from Edward Little High School in the Class of 1934, and from Pelletier’s Beauty School in 1935. On Oct. 26, 1935, she married Maurice (Maury) L. Libby at the Center Minot Church.

She was a member of the High Street Congregational Church and Guild until she transferred to the New Gloucester Congregational Church in 1966, and joined the Evening Guild and the Ladies Circle. She chaired the lobster raffle for two years to help with the new church addition.

She gave up cosmetology to raise her family and later worked for 27 years at West Breeze Orchard.

She was also a member of the United Commercial Travelers, Poland Spring Preservation Society , and New Gloucester Historical Society.

She is survived by three sons, Douglas and wife, Janice, of Scarborough, Phillip and wife, Linda, of Poland, Brian and wife, Carol, of Cape Coral, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Peter and wife, Diane, of Portland, Linda Gardner and husband, Jason, of Saco, Scott and wife, Angela, of Topsham, Jeffrey and wife, Deanna, of Woodbridge, Va., Sarah Bragdon and husband, Christopher, of Kyoto, Japan, Christopher of Tampa, Fla. and Ryan of Cape Coral, Fla.; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by husband, Maury; sister, Vivian Dufresne; and companion, Michael Sheloske.
