DEER ISLE – Haystack Mountain School of Crafts has announced its course offerings and faculty instructors for the summer season. One-, two- and three-week workshops will be held from June through September in a variety of craft media.

Highlights include a two-week Australian session with faculty artists from South Australia and Tasmania, a collaboration with Opera House Arts’ Deer Isle Jazz Festival bringing pipa (Chinese lute) soloist Min Xiao-Fen to the area, and a new one-week session in early September.

Sculptor Stacy Levy, poet Naomi Shihab Nye and author Mark Thomson will participate in the visiting artist program, sharing their talents with workshop participants.

Haystack’s scholarship endowment provides funding for more than 20 percent of the students who attend the school. Several types of scholarships and fellowships are available.

The deadline for scholarship applications is March 25, and the deadline for all other applications is April 15.

Course catalogs can be obtained by contacting the Haystack office, or by visiting www.haystack-mtn.org.

Tours of the campus are available at 1 p.m. Wednesdays beginning June 7. The school also offers shorter workshops in the spring and fall for Maine residents. To request a brochure or evening programs schedule, call 348-2306 or e-mail [email protected].
