IRAQ – Sgt. First Class Shawn C. Dostie E7, 32, died Dec. 30, in Iraq.

He was born in Rumford, Jan. 7, 1973, and graduated from Lewiston High School in the Class of 1991 and received his associate degree from Troy University.

He served in the U.S. Army at Garistadt, Germany, Vicenza, Italy, Fort Benning, Ga. and three assignments to Fort Campbell, Ky.

SFC Dostie’s awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart Medal, Army Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal with one Oak Leaf cluster, Humanitarian Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Multinational Forces Observer Medal and Global War on Terror Service Medal. In addition, SFC Dostie earned the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Expert Infantryman’s Badge, Drill Sergeant’s Badge, Parachutist Badge – U.S., Belgium and British, Air Assault Badge and Pathfinder Badge.

He loved his family, his friends and his country. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his children, his car, his motorcycle and music.

He will be remembered for his energy, love of family and his willingness to risk his own life to make ours safe.

He is survived by his wife of 10 years, the former Stephanie Cornett; a daughter, Bayleigh Dostie, 5 and a son, Cameron Dostie, 8, all of Fort Campbell, Ky.; his mom and dad, Robert and Delaine Campbell Fugere of Lewiston; a sister, Crystal Desrosiers and her husband, Lucien of Poland; his paternal grandfather, Harvey Fugere of Auburn; his mother-in-law, Brenda Mills of Fort Campbell, Ky.; his brother-in-law, Randy Cornett and fiancee, Heather of Ohio; four aunts, Delores Hebert and husband, Robert of Lewiston, Doreen Richard of Rumford, Darlene Davis and husband, Galen of Gardiner and Pauline Goyette and husband, Raymond of Windham; one uncle, Joey Campbell and wife, Renee of Mechanic Falls; two nieces, Brianna and Paige; three nephews, Luke, Nick and Hunter; and several cousins.

A memorial service was held in Iraq on Jan. 3. A memorial service was held on his birthday at Fort Campbell, Ky., Jan. 7. Full military honors were held with burial at Arlington National Cemetery on Jan. 11.
