LEWISTON – Police and federal agents were searching across the area Friday for a man considered to be armed and dangerous.
Police were after Jesse Caron, 27, of 741 Sabattus St., on a slew of drug and weapons charges and on new evidence that he threatened a woman with a gun.
Lewiston police and agents from the Central Maine Violent Crimes Task Force said they have information that Caron is still in the area and that he is carrying a gun. In recent days, police have gone to several locations in the Lewiston-Auburn area after receiving tips on Caron’s whereabouts.
“We’ve just missed him a couple of times,” said Lewiston police Sgt. Adam Higgins. “He’s jumped out of windows and that kind of thing.”
Police have been searching for Caron since the early part of the month when he failed to show up in court to answer the charges against him. He was arrested at his home Nov. 1 on a drug trafficking charge, but was later released on $25,000 bail.
Caron is named in warrants charging him with aggravated trafficking in cocaine, two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm, possessing painkillers Oxycodone and Hydrocodone, and two counts of receiving stolen property.
Police said they also have probable cause to arrest Caron on new charges of domestic assault and criminal threatening with a firearm. Those charges stem from a recent incident during which Caron threatened a girlfriend with a gun, police said.
Investigators said Caron knows he is being sought, and they described him as increasingly desperate as the search continues.
“He’s been eluding us for a while,” said police Sgt. Michael McGonagle. “He’s armed and he’s dangerous.”
Anyone with information about Caron’s whereabouts is asked to phone task force agent Trevor Campbell at 786-8050, or a Lewiston police dispatcher at 784-6421.
