YOUNG LAKE, Ontario, Canada – The wedding of Katherine Phillips of Toronto, Canada,.and Arthur Ruff of Lewiston was held on Oct. 9 at Young Lake in Ontario, Canada.

Alexander and Adam Ruff, ring bearers, announced the arrival of the couple with drums as they came across the lake in canoes from different directions.

The bridegroom was paddled by his brothers, Joseph and Daniel Ruff. He was met at the dock by his family and escorted to the wedding tent by his parents, George and Nancy Ruff of Lewiston.

The bride was paddled by her brothers, Michael and Jamie Phillips. She was met and escorted by her parents, John and Catherine Phillips of Toronto.

The maid of honor was Catherine Farquharson, and other attendants for the couple were family members. Attendants for the bride were Caroline Young, Susan Ruff and Zoe Young. Leaf girls were Nicky and Sarah Young and Isabel Ruff. Ushers were Rebecca Ruff and William Young.

The bride wore a white gown of Japanese raw silk with champagne sash. She carried a bouquet of claret roses.

When the ceremony began, the bride’s maternal grandmother, Joyce Young, presented the stole. Beryl Phillips, paternal grandmother of the bride, read from scripture, and a poem was read by Paul Gill, cousin of the groom.

Music was provided by a string ensemble. Following the exchange of vows, hors d’oeuvres and hot drinks were served at lakeside. The reception was held at the Trillium Resort at Port Sydney, Ontario.

The couple is living in Beverly, Mass., where Mrs. Ruff is an economic analyst with Lulu.com, and Mr. Ruff teaches pre-engineering and physics at Salem High School. The couple will honeymoon in Morocco in the spring.
