OBERSTDORF, Germany (AP) – Norwegians Odd-Bjorn Hjelmeset and Ella Gjoemle won cross-country sprints at a World Cup meet Sunday, with American Andrew Newell fourth in the men’s race.
Hjelmeset captured the four-man final in a 1.2-kilometer classic style race in 2 minutes, 29.9 seconds.
He edged Norway’s Johan Kjolstad by 1.1 seconds. Russia’s Vassili Rotchev was third and Newell fourth, both 2.8 behind.
In the 900-meter woman’s final, Gjomle won the classical style race in 2:07.6, edging Sweden’s Lina Andersson by 0.3 seconds and Norway’s Guru Strom Solli by 0.7. Poland’s Justyna Kowalczyk was fourth, 2.5 back.
Beckie Scott topped the B-Final in 2:12.8 after being eliminated in the semifinals. On Saturday, the Canadian won a double pursuit.
