MEXICO – The investigation into a fire that caused about $15,000 damage to a four-bay garage has been delayed due to weather.
Mexico Fire Chief Gary Wentzell said Monday afternoon that state fire investigator Chris Stanford had planned to interview several people on Monday. With slick roads, Stanford decided to postpone the interviews until later in the week.
Wentzell said Stanford has the names of several people to interview, but no suspects.
Wentzell said he believed the fire was intentionally set because the building, located behind 53 Roxbury Road, was secured. He said the fire began inside one of the windows. The flames then burned through the window and destroyed a bench located nearby. A couple of old appliances and a desk were also destroyed, along with one of the four bays. There was no power to the building.
Nearly two dozen firefighters and three pieces of apparatus from Mexico and Rumford turned out for the 6:30 a.m. Sunday fire.
Firefighters were able to knock down the fire with foam within a few minutes.
The garage’s owner, Mark Ross, also owns Lazarous Motors Inc. and the Chicken Coop Restaurant.
