NORWAY – State police are investigating the events that led up to the death of a man who drove away from a Norway bar early Sunday morning and crashed his pickup truck, Trooper Angela Porter said Monday night.

Richard A. Randall Jr., 38, of Gray left Charlie’s Entertainment Center on Main Street shortly after midnight with his wife, Chantelle, 34. Porter said Randall did not stop at the stop sign at the junction of Lower Main Street and Route 26, based on the marks in the street.

Randall’s 2004 Chevrolet Silverado hit the guardrail on the opposite side of the street. The impact forced his door open and threw him out into a ditch. The truck then spun to a stop in front of Aubuchon Hardware store.

Porter said Randall was dead when police arrived shortly after 12:20 a.m. The medical examiner’s office is looking into the cause of death.

Chantelle was taken to Stephens Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries and released, Porter said.

“We’re considering speed a factor,” Porter said, as well as alcohol.

“We’re still interviewing everyone in regards to the accident,” she added.

The Randalls have two children, ages 12 and 13, Porter said.

Sgt. Michael Dailey of the Paris police and Sgt. Rick McAlister of the state police are reconstructing the accident.
